RES Solar

Resource Technology

The development of a commercially successful wind or solar farm that is sensitive to the local environment and community depends greatly on technical expertise. RES Americas has all the required skills in-house in order to streamline the development process and create value while integrating constructability and siting issues early on. Our wind and solar data analysis activities incorporate installing meteorological towers, calibrating anemometers and maintaining quality control of the data we collect including long-term climate estimates, we have the know-how. Please review our technical documents.

Technical Expertise:

  • Wind Data Analysis -The wind speed climate prediction is the single most important driver of the cost of wind energy. Our Resource Data Analysis team has led the R&D discussion on MCP (Measure Correlate Predict) techniques for over 20 years.

  • Wind Farm Layout Design for Energy Optimization - RES Americas Energy Resource Engineering team optimizes a site's specific wind energy yields by predicting climatic conditions, wind speed-up effects (due to local terrain and roughness changes), obstacle effects such as those due to forestry, 'wake' (sometimes know as 'array') effects due to interaction between turbines, and the power curves of the turbines considered. All our software is written in-house. This means that we fully understand the physical processes involved and that we are able to incorporate the latest thinking, best practices and modeling techniques immediately. We have also integrated our analysis software into a professional drawing package so that the transition from Development to Construction is seamless.
  • Solar Array Layout Design and Output - RES Americas uses Solar Advisory Model (SAM), developed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), to predict the typical monthly and yearly performance of solar insolation or radiation yields of a site.
  • In-house Software Design - Our Software Design Engineering team fully understands the physical processes involved for individual projects, which ensures that we are able to incorporate the most up-to-date software design, modeling techniques and best practices immediately. Furthermore, we have also integrated our analysis software into a professional drawing package that allows for a seamless transition from the development stage through construction and leading into operation.

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) - Used for turbine siting in complex or rough terrain.

  • Mesoscale Wind Modeling - We have the ability to internally generate wind maps of whole states or provinces using our in-house weather model.

  • Wind and Solar Farm Visualizations - These are used in pre-construction to determine what the operational wind or solar farm will look like from any given viewpoint and location. Fly-through animations can also be generated.

  • Sound Data Analysis - RES Americas uses this data to protect the quality of the local environment.

  • Microwave and Radar Communications - RES Americas Energy Resource Engineering team ensures that the placement of turbines avoids or mitigates interference with radar signals, electromagnetic and microwave communications.
