Supervisor: Engineering Manager

Description: This position will be responsible for electrical engineering of wind farm projects including substations, switchyards, underground and overhead cabling.

Responsibilities:

1. As part of the Engineering team and reporting to the Engineering Manager the role is to provide power systems design support to the development and construction teams working on US and Canadian wind farm projects.
2. Wind farm MV collection system design, including the selection the cable routes and cable sizing calculations.
3. Power systems studies (load flow, short circuit, losses, voltage rise). RES Americas uses Dig-SILENT Power Factory software and the necessary training will be provided.
4. The management of all other study work and electrical calculations undertaken by RES Americas which will require a good level of computer literacy.
5. Liaise with RES Americas interconnection experts to establish the interconnection requirements and ensure that the wind farm will comply.
6. Equipment specification (cable, transformers, power factor correction equipment etc).
7. Detailed functional technical specification for substation design and build contracts.
8. Functional technical specification for transmission line design and build contracts.
9. Preparation of scopes of work and subsequent management of protection and communications consultants.
10. Collation of system data from client, utility, suppliers, contractors and etc for system modelling purposes.
11. Preparation of functional one-line drawings of both grid interconnection and collection system for interconnection applications.
12. General electrical engineering support to the US team.
13. Familiarity with and ability to stay current regarding changing regulatory requirements.
14. Understanding of contract terms and ability to recognize discrepancies.
15. Employees must be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess an appropriate valid driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage, and have an acceptable driving record.
16. Responsible to ensure SAFETY requirements must be met.
17. Stay current with professional and industrial best practices.
18. Must be able to work professionally with clients, vendors, employees, managers and supervisors.
19. Regular attendance is an essential requirement of the job.
20. Follow any other job-related duties/functions requested by the supervisor

Requirements:

1. 10-15 years experience in Power System Planning.
2. Registered Professional Engineer or working toward registration within 3 years.
3. Applicant should have experience performing studies with any power system simulation software.
4. Needs expertise and the necessary skills to interface with the Client and will be instrumental in delivering on time cost effective projects.
5. Analytical work with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
6. Able to prioritize work.
7. Ability to travel, less than 10%.
8. Minimum 5 years of Management experience.
9. Skilled in MS Office and Outlook.

Education:

MS and/or BS Engineering degree in Power Systems or PLC
