Supervisor: Civil Design Engineering Manager

Description: This position entails taking on a leading role in the management and design of the civil engineering components of wind farm projects which include but are not limited to roads, turbine foundations and foundations for electrical substations, switchyards and other equipment.

Responsibilities:

1.	Provide leadership and technical guidance for engineering team including mentoring, teaching, and developing the skills of co-workers in the department. This includes other civil design engineers and CAD technicians.
2.	Provide leadership in civil design and production of working construction documents, provide civil design expertise to the development teams, and support construction teams working on US and Canadian wind farm projects.
3.	Evaluate geotechnical information and turbine loading data which form the basis for the design of foundations and other civil components of the wind farm.
4.	Carry out and/or be in responsible charge in the production of detailed, code-compliant design calculations of wind turbine foundations and other concrete structures. Foundations include shallow gravity footings, deep foundations, rock anchored foundations and other innovative/proprietary foundation systems.
5.	Review foundation designs and engineering documents prepared by sub-consultants.
6.	Carry out and/or oversee civil design of roads, including cuttings and embankments.
7.	Coordinate design teams and manage design documents and calculations.
8.	Liaise with RES Americas site civil managers to establish good communication between the sites and the design team.
9.	Work closely with the owners' engineers to approve RES Americas foundation designs.
10.	Develop and review material and construction specifications for reinforced concrete, shallow/deep/anchored foundations and roads.
11.	Prepare scopes of work and subsequently manage geotechnical, structural, geophysical and civil engineering consultants.
12.	Supervise the work of CAD staff to produce working sets of foundation and road construction drawings.
13.	Stay current with changing regulatory requirements.
14.	Understand contract terms and be able to recognize discrepancies.
15.	Be responsible for the technical accuracy, quality, and adherence to standards and contract requirements of engineering calculations and design drawings for the project.
16.	Be physically capable of operating a vehicle safely, possess an appropriate valid driver's license, possess personal insurance coverage and have an acceptable driving record.
17.	Be responsible and abide by all SAFETY requirements.
18.	Stay current with professional and industrial best practices.
19.	Be able to work professionally with clients, vendors, employees, managers and supervisors.
20.	Regular attendance is an essential requirement of the job.
21.	Follow any other job-related duties/functions requested by the supervisor.

Requirements:

1.	10 to 15 years of proven civil, geotechnical and/or structural engineering design experience that includes concrete design.
2.	2 to 5 years of group leadership and/or project management experience.
3.	Heavy commercial power, utility, and energy background is preferred.
4.	Be a registered Professional Engineer in Colorado or be able to obtain professional registration within 6 months of hire.
5.	Be knowledgeable of design code requirements and design standards such as IBC, ACI, ASCE 7 and PTI and be versed in engineering design per ASD and LRFD methods.
6.	Have working knowledge of computer programs used in engineering analysis and design such as Finite Element programs, foundation design tools, MathCAD, and EXCEL.
7.	Possess good communication skills for interfacing with design team members and clients/consultants.
8.	Working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, Microstation).
9.	Be able to travel, less than 25%.
10.	Able to obtain passport for travel outside the United States as necessary.
11.	Skilled in MS Office and Outlook.

Education:

- BS Engineering degree in construction related areas such as Civil, Structural or Geotechnical Engineering.

- Registered Professional Engineer in Colorado or be able to obtain registration within 6 months of hire.
