Renewable Energy Systems Americas (RES-Americas) announced today that it has purchased 26, 2.3MW wind turbine generators from Siemens Power Generation. These wind turbine generators will be installed at RES' Whirlwind Energy Center, located in Floyd County, Texas.
The 26 Siemens wind turbine generators will produce 59.8MW of clean, affordable electricity, or enough to power approximately 28,000 Texas homes.
The power will be sold to Austin Energy under a recently executed long-term arrangement (Power Purchase Agreement) that will commence upon completion of construction and commissioning. RES-Americas also intends to own a significant portion of the project and be the project operator.
Craig Mataczynski, President of RES Americas Inc, commented;
“RES Americas is excited about our continued relationship with Siemens which provides some of the highest quality wind generation equipment in the world. By securing these turbines RES is moving full speed ahead with the Whirlwind Energy Center, which is expected to start construction in March of 2007 and will be completed in late 2007. Additionally, the Whirlwind project is another example of RES' commitment to the wind energy industry in Texas.”
Michael Revak, Director of Wind Power, Americas at Siemens, commented;

RES-Americas continues to seek new locations for wind projects as well as opportunities to participate in other forms of renewable energy. On the web at www.res-americas.com.“Siemens has a long, productive track record of working with RES. Our relationship with RES in Texas dates back to 2001 when RES built the King Mountain Wind Ranch in Upton County, using 278MW of Siemens (then Bonus) turbines. RES Americas has completed projects including 342MW of Siemens turbines and is currently constructing projects with an additional 451MW of Siemens turbines, including the Whirlwind Energy Center, at sites in Texas and elsewhere in the US. We're delighted to be working with RES again on Whirlwind and look forward to continuing our relationship into the future. ”
